Question 1

Is Bakoven safe?

Bakoven is one of the safest suburbs in Cape Town. It is a small, exclusive residential enclave with very low crime rates. The neighbourhood has limited through-traffic and a close-knit community. It is considered one of the most secure areas on the Atlantic Seaboard.

Question 2

Where is Bakoven in Cape Town?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven is a tiny coastal suburb nestled between Camps Bay and Llandudno on the Atlantic Seaboard. It sits at the foot of the Twelve Apostles mountain range. The name means 'bake oven' in Afrikaans, referring to a large, rounded rock formation on the beach that resembles a traditional oven.

Question 3

Can you swim at Bakoven Beach?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven has a small, sheltered beach that is popular with locals. The Atlantic water is cold, typically between 8 and 14 degrees Celsius, but the beach is more protected than nearby Camps Bay, making it a quieter alternative. The tidal pools are popular for swimming. It is a peaceful spot away from the crowds.

Question 4

Is Bakoven good for a mid-term rental?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven is an exclusive, high-end suburb with limited rental stock. Properties are predominantly luxury villas and apartments, making it one of the most expensive areas in Cape Town. It suits visitors seeking privacy, ocean views, and a quiet retreat. Daily amenities require a short drive to Camps Bay or Hout Bay.

Question 5

What is there to do in Bakoven?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven is primarily a residential retreat rather than an activity hub. The beach and tidal pools are the main attraction. For dining, shopping, and nightlife, Camps Bay is a 2 minute drive away. Hiking trails along the Twelve Apostles and the Pipe Track are easily accessible. Llandudno Beach, one of Cape Town's most beautiful beaches, is just around the corner.

Question 6

How far is Bakoven from Cape Town city centre?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven is approximately 10 kilometres from the Cape Town CBD, a 15 to 20 minute drive via Camps Bay. There is no direct public transport to Bakoven, so a car or ride-hailing service is essential. The scenic coastal drive through Camps Bay and along Victoria Road is one of Cape Town's most beautiful routes.

Question 7

What is the cost of living in Bakoven?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven is one of Cape Town's most expensive suburbs. Property prices and rental rates are among the highest in the city, reflecting the exclusivity and ocean-front location. There are no shops or restaurants in Bakoven itself, so residents rely on nearby Camps Bay and Hout Bay for daily needs.

Question 8

How does Bakoven compare to Camps Bay and Llandudno?

Accepted Answer

Bakoven is quieter and more exclusive than Camps Bay, which has a bustling restaurant strip and larger beach. Llandudno, on the other side, is similarly quiet but has a larger sandy beach and a more established residential community. Bakoven suits visitors who want ultimate privacy and seclusion while being minutes from Camps Bay's amenities.

Question 9

Accepted Answer
